If you’re a foreign national planning to study at your preferred university in the UK, you’ll need a UK visa. For more information on visa requirements, please visit UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA).

While living in the UK, having a UK bank account can simplify your finances. Many British banks offer student-friendly deals, so it’s worth exploring your options. Here are some popular choices to consider:

As a UK student, you’re entitled to travel discount cards that apply to national train and bus networks. Here are some travel options to consider:

    • Young Persons Railcard – If you’re 25 and under, save 1/3 off train travel with a £30 annual card.
    • Young Persons Coach Card – If you’re 26 and under, enjoy 30% off National Express bus journeys with a £10 annual card or £25 for 3 years.

If you’re an international student coming to the UK, getting a UK SIM card can help keep your phone bills manageable. You have two main options:

  • Pay-as-you-go – Most phone providers offer SIM cards that allow you to top up your phone as needed.
  • Contracts – Starting a contract may be more challenging if you’re new to the UK, but there are various providers and deals available.

Here are some UK phone providers to consider:

  • EE
  • O2 – Enjoy priority tickets to gigs and events across the UK as an O2 customer.
  • Vodafone
  • Three

It is important that whilst you are living in the UK you register with a doctor. As a full-time student, you may qualify for free NHS treatment. Your university can provide details of medical and dental practices in the area.
