Move-in day is almost here, and with it, the chaos of trying to remember everything you’ll need. From bedding basics to the little things that make a room feel like your own – this list’s got you covered.
If you’re joining Neo for the first time this year, you’ve made a smart choice. We’re National Code accredited, which means we meet the highest standards in student accommodation. So now your space is sorted, let’s talk about what you can bring to make it feel like home.
Bedroom basics
Your room comes furnished with the big bits (bed, mattress, wardrobe, desk, chair etc), so you can focus on the extras that make it yours:
- Duvet, duvet cover + sheets
- Pillows + pillowcases
- Towels (bath + hand)
- Laundry basket
- Clothes hangers (you’ll need more than you think)
- Bin + liners
- Decor: fairy lights, cushions, throws, photos
Bathroom kit
Whether you’ll be living in an ensuite or studio, you’ll thank yourself for having these ready from day one:
- Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel
- Toothbrush + toothpaste
- Hand soap
- Wash bag for all your toiletries
- Towels
- Flip-flops / sliders
- Toilet roll (day-one essential)
Household + Health must-haves
There are a few extras worth throwing in your bag that don’t always make the standard packing lists, but will save you later:
- Cleaning bits: wipes, spray, maybe even a mini vacuum if you’re feeling fancy. Perfect for keeping your room fresh day to day.
- Spare sheets and towels: nothing worse than waiting for laundry to dry. A backup set keeps you covered.
And for looking after yourself:
- First aid kit: plasters, antiseptic wipes… the basics are enough.
- Any prescription meds: bring what you need and keep it organised.
- Travel-sized toiletries: enough to get you through the first couple of days before you hit the shops.
Kitchen essentials

Check what’s included in your flat first, but a good starter pack is:
- Mug, plate, bowl, and cutlery set
- Sharp knife + chopping board
- Frying pan + saucepan
- Tupperware for leftovers
- Tea towels + sponge
- Bin bags, foil, and cling film
- A few cupboard staples like (pasta, teabags, baked beans and bread)
Tech + study gear
You’ll spend half your time on this stuff, so don’t forget it:
- Laptop + charger
- Extension leads (top of the list)
- Headphones
- Portable phone charger
- USB or external hard drive
- Basic stationery
Comforts + extras
The things that make your new space feel like your space:

Don’t forget the paperwork
Not the most exciting part of the packing list, but definitely the most important:
- Passport + ID
- Bank details

- NHS medical card / GP registration info
And if you’re missing a few bits, don’t worry! The Neo Shop makes it easy to grab bedding, kitchen, and bathroom packs without the need to hunt around. Order what you need online and get it delivered straight to your new uni home.
Make it yours
Packing for uni isn’t just about ticking off a list, it’s about creating a space that feels like you! Get the essentials right, then let your room grow with you throughout the year.
Because starting uni is more than just any other move, it’s the start of a whole new chapter! So, pack the essentials, bring the things that make you feel at home, and remember you don’t need to have it all figured out on day one.
Use this list as your baseline, then let your space grow with you. Meet new people, try new things, and don’t stress if your room isn’t Pinterest-perfect straight away. The best part of moving into student accommodation isn’t just the stuff you bring; it’s the experiences, friendships, and memories that fill the space once you’re here.
So here’s to move-in day and everything that comes after.
